Motion
Slow Shutter Speed
Approximately what shutter speed did you use to purposely blur action?
The picture I chose to write about was the slow shutter speed picture of the young girl on the scooter. For me to capture the perfect shutter speed I set it do 1/30 of a sec. to capture the perfect picture.
What ISO and WB settings did you use?
For my ISO I set my camera to 800 because I was taking the picture inside so I thought 800 would be just right. For my White Balance setting I set it to a fluorescent lighting.
What motion, or part of the image shows blur? (Describe).
The scooter as a whole and the girl's legs.
What was your distance, and point of view for the photo?
I was directly in front of the girl, and I had my camera pointed downward towards the bottom of the scooter to capture the perfect picture.
Describe any compositional elements (tools) that are present in or that strengthen the photo.(rule of thirds, positive and negative space, line, shape, pattern, texture, strong colors, contrast...)
Photoshop was a great help for editing this amazing photo. I used the adjustments and the levels to make it so rich and have such an amazing contrast.
Fast Shutter Speed
Approximately what shutter speed did you use to freeze action?
100-200 shutter speed
What ISO and WB settings did you use?If you were on a point and shoot camera, what setting(s) did you use?
For my ISO setting I set my camera to 200 , and for my White Balance I set my camera to outside skylight .
What action did you freeze? (Describe).
The action that was forced on the most and that froze in mid catch was the shoe.
What was your distance, and point of view for the photo?
The distance of the shot was a medium shot, Shot in-front of the person.
Describe any composition elements (tools) that are present in or that strengthen the photo.(rule of thirds, positive and negative space, line, shape, pattern, texture, strong colors, contrast...)
I changed my picture to black and white and as I did for the Slow Shutter Speed photo I changed the levels as well, and adjusted the quality on the picture. It came out really good.
Aperture
Shallow Depth of field Questions
What f-stop did you have your camera set to create a shallow depth of field?
For my F-stop I set it to an F-stop of F/4 which will make you have a narrow depth of field, with little will be in focus on either side of your focus point.
What ISO and WB settings did you use?
For my ISO I set it to 800, and for my WB setting I set it a shade sort of lighting because I was shooting towards the outside light but it was cloudy outside so It created a sort os shade.
Large Depth of field Questions
What f-stop did you have your camera set to create a large depth of field?
For my F-stop I set it to an F-stop of F/16 which will make you have more depth of field, with more subject matter in focus on either side of your focus point.
What ISO and WB settings did you use?
I wanted to maximize the depth of field for my work, so I know I needed a small aperture. So I used a high ISO of 400. For my white balance I set it to an inside lighting because I used inside lighting to capture the great picture.
Which photo is better? Why?
The picture of the emergency defibrillator would probably be the best picture I captured because it perfectly focused on the last part of the word defibrillator, and blured out the rest so that it wasn't in focus.
Why would you want to use a shallow depth of field?
Depth of field is a measure of how much of a photo is in focus. If you use a digital camera, and use it in auto mode, you probably have a "long" depth of field. This means that practically everything in your photo will be in focus.
When/in what situation would a large depth of field be better?
Large depth of field is when you want your whole subject to be in focus. For example if your taking a picture of a landscape your gonna use a large depth of field because you are gonna want to everything focus.
Painting With Light
What shutter speed did you have the camera on?
For the first couple of shots I had a shutter speed of a couple seconds, so It can be very fast action shots.
What light source did you use to create the painting?
To capture the pictures I did I used light saber's for he most part if not I used colorful flashlights.
How did you achieve the image/effect?
I was set up on a tripod with a very fast shutter speed, and when I thought it was the right time to capture a picture I got ready and I took a bunch in a row with the setting on my camera and they came out really good. I set my ISO settings very low which is always the best.
What impact does the photo have? How would the viewer feel looking at your photo?
When I first heard of painting with light I didn't know what to except. When I saw painting with light I was amazed. I thought how could someone capture a picture so fast so good? When we started taking pictures of subjects painting with light I thought and said to myself this is going to be impossible but surely it wasn't when I captured my first picture I was in love it came out so good. It had such an amazing effect on me because I thought it was something cool to capture how you had to set your shutter speed so fast with a low Iso.
